Clipart for Members

There have been several requests for photos, paintings and line art drawings that members could download and use on their stationery, business cards, advertising, farm signs, etc. The USSA logo sheep head is the limit of my talent. If you have or can produce such art, we will get it in a format and size that the members can use. If there are enough submissions, we could have a friendly competition as to which art is downloaded the most. So get those creative juices flowing.

Youth Scholarships link to recipients and rules

The National Suffolk Foundation, an arm of the USSA, announces the establishment of two annual $1000 scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded to worthy applicants at the North American International Livestock Show in Louisville. Scholarships will be awarded entirely on merit.

The Board strongly encourages all eligible Suffolk breeders to join this competition.

National Suffolk Foundation

The NSF was founded as a not for profit corporation to provide scholarships to worthy Junior Suffolk breeders. The Foundation is entirely funded by tax deductible donations. There are enough funds available to award this year's scholarships and almost enough for next year's. Donations should be sent to the office. Bequeathments or memorial scholarships may be established in the name of the honored person.

Webpage

For those who don't know, I'm Andy Asberry, your volunteer webmaster. From our humble beginnings in 1999, our site has grown and evolved. We try to provide news and information that is of interest to Suffolk enthusiasts of all levels.

Many of you have offered suggestions for improvements or new features. Thank you. Without feedback, it is hard to know what the members want and need. Suggested additions are added after careful consideration of the number of breeders who would benefit and how much time and effort would be required to build and maintain that page. The site requires about ten hours of maintenance each week now.

In the past, I have tried to enter corrections and changes as I received them. It seems people change their e-mail address every time they comb their hair. I don't mind making these changes. I just won't be able to upload them as frequently. It will be about once weekly. So, if you miss the upload this week, your change won't appear until next week.

Probably the most requested feature is online registration. To be frank, we are a sloppy bunch. If you could see how many incomplete and inaccurate applications that are received in the office, you would understand why it is not prudent to allow unfettered access to our data base. Can you imagine the damage a talented(?) hacker could do?

On this site, there are ram and ewe registration applications in two different formats. Either can be filled out and mailed or faxed to the office. We now have an application that can be filled out and submitted online. This form would be sent to the office where personnel would check for accuracy and then enter it into the records. Work continues.

Two under-used benefits are the classified ads and the coming events pages. They cost nothing and users have reported very good results.

If you have found a webpage that would be of interest or benefit, share the info. We'll get it on the links page.

The United Junior Suffolk Sheep Association members requested their own website. Their choice from several possible domain names was www.UJSSA.org . The webpage was up and running March 28, 2004. It is a page for Juniors by Juniors. Contact any Junior director if you have requests or suggestions on content.
